Description
MOUNTAIN ASH, EUROPEAN, Sorbus aucuparia – A non-native, medium-size tree. Grows well in dry soils but prefers rich moist soil. Recommended spacing is to plant each tree singularly, 10 to 20 feet apart. Has large white flowers in the spring. Red-orange berry clusters are valuable food for deer, rabbit, ruffed grouse, and many species of songbirds, especially grosbeaks and waxwings. Fruit forms in late August and persists on branches into winter. Mature height: up to 30 feet.
